CLASSIC COCKTAIL CLASS
[West Town, 1412 W. Chicago]
Thursday, February 25th, 7-8:30pm
Thursday, February 25th, 7-8:30pm
If America can claim one thing as its own in the world of alcoholic beverages, it's the cocktail. An American legacy, the cocktail was once a beautiful thing, meant to enhance and refine all the innovative spirits and liqueurs that made their way through the US in the 19th century. Bartending was a form of art, and expression of creativity. Dozens of cocktails were invented in this time that have since fallen out of favor. Despite its perversion of the cocktail (think: Sex on the Beach or Red Bull-Vodka), the United States is seeing a cocktail renaissance. More and more individuals, retail stores, and drinking establishments are bringing back the culture of the classic cocktail. Join us for a night of mixing, shaking, jiggering, and drinking. We'll go over the history of the cocktail, as well as provide recipes for such classics at the Manhattan, Old Fashion (no muddling involved!), Mojito, Aviation, Martinez, and more. You'll rediscover a drinking culture of a by-gone era, and be part of its reemergence. And, most importantly, you'll be able to throw the best cocktail parties in town.

AUCHENTOSHAN THREE WOOD
A rare lowland single malt, Auchentoshan's new 'Three Wood' bottling has made quite a stir in the whisky world. Aged in used bourbon barrels, then two different types of sherry barrels, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez, this scotch is not only innovative, but delicious. Michael Jackson (the beer and whisky guy, not the King of Pop), has said of this Scotch: "Matching Auchentoshan with Pedro Ximenez is like putting Benny Lynch in the ring with Marciano. What do you get? It's unimaginable, but in whisky it works."
Lots of dried fruit and nut notes on the nose, along with orange peel and milk chocolate. The sherry quality bursts through on the palate, with a wonderful balance of rich, viscous dried fruit and a marshmallow, nougat sweetness. Spicy, warming, and enveloping on the finish, this Scotch is absolutely irresistable.
