Tongue in Cheek
(Jane Lopes)

Sweet Vermouth is called for a lot in "sipper" cocktails, like a Manhattan, Negroni, and a Brooklyn. However, in the summer months, sometimes a more crisp, fruity sipper is desired. As evidenced by this cocktail, Carpano can still be put to good use!

2 oz. bourbon (Weller Special Reserve or Buffalo Trace work well)
3/4 oz. lemon juice
3/4 oz. simple syrup (1:1)
3/4 oz. Carpano Antica
1 strawberry
1 mint spring
dash Angostura bitters

Muddle the strawberry in the bottom of a shaker. Add all ingredients, ice, and shake well. Strain into a collins glass with ice, top with a splash of soda, and garnish with mint. Cheers!

Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth

Ask any cocktail nerd what his or her favorite sweet vermouth is, and nine times out of ten, he or she will say "Carpano". Supposedly the original Italian sweet vermouth, Carpano Antica was created by Antonio Benedetto Carpano in 1786. Today, it has found worldwide success in high-end cocktail bars and home bars of the cognoscenti. Herbal and rich, Carpano takes a Manhattan or Negroni from ordinary to magnificent. Unlike many sweet vermouths, it is also excellent by itself as an aperitif and digestif.
